WDZ 8, Wels - Superlative Structural Glazing Façade
(04.06.2010)
A property in Wels, Austria, designed by Hofbauer:Architect has been realised with the Steindl Glas Structural Glazing System. More than 3,000 m2 of glass was needed for the building with 3,400 m2 of floor space. The design was executed with European-approved SG-Steindl ETA 08/0099 structural glazing using SG insulating glazing (Ug-value: 1.1), on the exterior with 8-mm TSG (16 space between the panes with UV edge seal and U-rail inserted) in stopsol susi grey and HST in conjunction with failproof glazing and tilt-and-turn window sashes flush with the surface. This realised increased sound insulation requirements of a max. of 37 dB. 6-mm TSG with thermal coating was installed in the interior. As a legally prescribed mechanical safeguard for the glazing, Steindl Glas put in a concealed wire spring over an installation height of 8 metres, which is embedded totally flat in the corners of the glass. Structural glazing façades with room-high failproofing glazing are realised in conformity with the requirements of the TRAV [Technical Rules for the Use of Failproof Glazing] and the TRLV [Technical Regulations for the Use of Glazing with Linear Supports] as well as those for glued glazing constructions. With Steindl Glas Structural Glazing Façades, it is possible to use maximum glass formats with a dimension of 2,500 x 6,000 mm in vertical and horizontal formats.
New Visual Dimensions with Screen Print on Glass
The panes were in part also printed with screen printing. In addition to cold and warm façades, SG Print from Steindl Glas is also suited for façade panels, interior walls, and anti-slip glass as well as for privacy protection, anti-glare protection and solar protection. With a maximum production size von 2,500 x 6,000 mm and glass thicknesses from 4-19 mm (TSG) or 4-12 mm (HS), there are no limits to creativity with this technology. As a result, all colours, subjects and layouts can be realised. A new, high-quality colour laboratory allows us to mix any RAL colour or NCS colour. The entire colour palette is based on water-soluble, environmentally friendly materials. The enamel is affixed to the surface of the glass and baked on so as to be absolutely waterproof.
The WDZ 8 Service Centre in Wels
The WDZ 8 Service Centre, a single building standing in a park-like area of greenery, is a courtyard building that completes the series of service centres surrounding the Upper Austrian brook called Mühlbach. The use of Stopsol susi grey SG insulating glazing makes the glass façade enveloping the three-storey building appear black. The surroundings are reflected in it, as a result of which the visual appearance of the building changes depending on the time of day and the time of year, with the various moods of lighting. Special attention was paid to placing all the parking spaces underground, allowing the surrounding green area to blend homogeneously into the overall picture.
